The cult of the new

I only need one Gong.  One Crystal Bowl.  One drum.  One.  Only One.  More than one confuses things, can create chaos or can shift the focus.  The mind, the being then is trained to want more, to desire bigger, to yearn for “better”.  Both in the one who is receiving the work and, more problematic still, in the one who is guiding the work.  By “better” I don Not mean in the sense of of what is truly best for us, but in a false perception that more is better.  that bigger is better.  that larger, that stronger, that higher, is better.

Perhaps this is human nature. The tendency to get caught in the trap that we need MORE.  That somehow, in this very moment, we, it, they, us….. are not ‘enough’.  That somehow if only:  we had more money, a new job, a bigger house,  more trainings, more tools, better marketing… that we’d take off and fly and leap into the life of our dreams.

I am here to hold the space of understanding that includes the life of our dreams as it is here and now. This heaven on earth. Through the radical lens of acceptance.  Not through the lens of wanting, desiring or grasping.    We have lost touch with the most fundamental knowledge we possess:  the completeness of simplicity, the truth of this moment, the wholeness of our being which needs nothing more to be Full except this very breath.  In fact, I don’t even need the Gong, or the Bowl, or the Drum or any “tool” at all.  And neither do you.  All the work, the depth, the transformation, the shift, the release, that you long for, can be achieved by simply sitting in silence together. With one who knows how to guide in the dark and in the stillenss. I don’t even need any technique, no scripted visualizations or guided imagery, no mantra or meditation ‘style’, no book or quote, no message cards or fun games,  none of it.  That is the truth.  The only truth. Every tool we use is in essence an illusion.  The danger being, we can confuse the path itself for the ultimate goal.   We can confuse the ‘method’ of our choice for the end result.  Then we will be stuck forever, on this treadmill of thinking we are progressing, but really being stuck .  We might be stuck in an “ok” place and so that may feel “ok”.  And we might even register “ok” as ‘good’! But sooner or later, sooner or later, our soul remembers its eternal longing and realizes it has been tricked and this is when we truly wake up.  And I must tell you, it is a rather rude and shocking awakening. (set apart by the many false awakening that arise in ones life which are often described as “aha” moments) And in that moment, we understand that we truly need nothing and we let it all go, without any hesitation. And then, only then, do we really know what it means to fly.

Inspiration. Its whats on my mind this wild wonderful Winter.  Honestly,  its what’s always on my mind.  As an Artist, inspiration is the fire to my soul; what keeps me joyful, enlivened and vibrant.  Someone at the museum after my workshop today commented “you always have so much energy”!  I would re-frame that:  I’m always deeply inspired.  By everything I see, feel, do, create.  It doesn’t mean I necessarily find it all easy or comfortable or even ‘good’.  But this world, this life, my breath, every person I meet, I am most truly inspired by.  Call it living life in a constant state of being taken by happy surprise or in a state of awe. Each moment, precious and new and full of wonder.  The ‘energy’ I have, is from this connection to inspiration.  I live and breathe it.

Consider this for a moment.  The literal definition of ‘inspiration’:

in·spi·ra·tion:  noun

  1. the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
  2. the drawing in of breath; inhalation.

That just blew my mind:  the drawing in of breath.  Inspiration.  to do or feel something, especially something Creative.  Inspiration.

Wow. Did you get that?  Did you feel it?  Did it sink in?

Inspiration IS in every breath, because it IS the breath.  This is available to us all, in every moment, to live a life aware of and engaged in inspiration.  It’s not just the domain of the Artist.  What a powerful understanding and teaching.

This year, I wish you all an inspired life.  And I’m cultivating and creating workshops, retreats, series and classes designed to hold you and guide you to this place of inspiration.

May we walk this journey together, with love & inspiration.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

Each day is a brand new 24 hours.  But sometimes, it can feel like you’re stuck on repeat. Asking yourself “haven’t I DONE this already?” :  “haven’t I been here before?”.  The question is always:  what is new in what is old?

Patterns are a part of Nature and Life itself.  Patterns are present everywhere in our mind, body, pyche, history, family, and so on.  A pattern, by its nature, is repetitive.  In that repetition there can either be stability or blockage.  The blockage comes when you are a stuck in a loop.  Some kind of feedback creates a reactionary response and then you’re doing it all over again.   But a pattern, when seen in its expanse, can also be grounding, anchoring and freeing.

Which patterns serve you and which are your Achilles Heel?  These patterns are up for deep understanding.  Remember, deep understanding may have a component of analysis to it, but that is only a small piece.  Don’t just ask your brain what IT thinks, be sure to check in with your heart, your belly, your body, your soul, your higher self.  Balancing out these lenses, you will see a clearer picture of what is happening and were and how to direct your life force.

Is change needed now?  Is routine needed now?  Is whats comfortable needed now?  Look for the patterns and make a conscious choice on how to approach them.   Then breathe into the newness of the present moment.

Energy Musings. Here. Now.

Today!

Cycles. Consider them.  Can you remember back to this time last year? What was there for you?  What were your dreams, hopes, wishes, fears, setbacks, challenges?  What ideas fell through the cracks? Which ones took flight and soared?  What were you excited about?

Without judgement or expectation, consider what is new here, now  and what is repeating here, now.  As you connect to your own cycles and remember where you were, you are better able to make choices with clear discernment on how to move forward…..now.  In this way, you bring your growing consciousness into all that you do.

The month of September has always felt like a time of “beginnings” to me. With the start of the ‘school year’, the close of the Summer months, the cool shift in the weather,  the gradual darkening of the skies.

Where is this cycle leading you next?

Energy Musings. Here. Now.

This Weekend!

The Newness of Now.  The Nowness of New.  Each moment we live, we breathe, we experience is brand new.  A new precious moment, hour, day….. to play, learn, grow, love, accomplish, let go and create the life, family, relationships and world we long for.

But it all starts with a moment. With this moment. With this New moment.  Each word you utter, each reaction that comes up,  each interaction, each thought …. carries with it the potential of the new.

What is the potential of the New?  It exists beyond expectation and judgement.  It is in the present, not the past or future.  It holds limitless possibilities.  It requires total trust.  It begs you for unconditional acceptance.  Really appreciating the newness of each moment requires you to radically let go.  Let go of conditioned response.  Let go of old patterns.  Let go of repeating cycles.   Let go of all the ‘stuck’ places.

As you move through these next brand new 24 hours and beyond, to the brand new 24 hours after that…. can you embrace the New?  Can you look for the places where Newness will serve you and those around you.  Lifting you ALL to ‘higher ground’ in the process.  Shifting. Changing.  Transforming.

What is possible here… in the newness of now?

Energy Musings.  Here.  Now.

This Week!

Beginners Mind.  Adapt the willingness to be a “beginner”.  All over again.  Forget what you think you know.  Who you think you are.  What you think is true.  Step into that place of raw learning.  Of shaping and shifting and being receptive to considering all options.  Be willing to listen, speak, and show up with beginners mind.  As you face you day, your work, your family, your conversations… be on the lookout for what is it for you that might be new. A new perspective, new information, new understanding.  What is new for you?

You might try taking a beginners yoga class if you usually attend the advanced class.  Or show up in a beginners art workshop even if you are a professional.  Find a way to challenge yourself by showing up as a beginner where you consider yourself an “Expert”. Through this experience, allow yourself the ability to let go of expectations and see through this beginners lense anew.

What is here, in beginners mind, for you today…. this week?

Energy Musings. Here.  Now.

This Weekend.

Where do we begin?  As we stumble forward from a week of pain, horror, destruction, injustice, from every side from every angle, affecting every one.

Do you remember?  Do you remember that this is not the fist time?  How far back are you willing to look?     Can you look at the past and the present and see that  we are all stuck in a mad mad cycle of re-action?  What’s it going to take to stop it and shift the tide…for real?

Consider this as a personal starting point:  clear your own triggers first.  where you get hung up and stuck and caught .  where you fumble and fall.  Be honest. Theres too much at stake not to be.  In that process YOU create a pathway out and we  patiently do the hard work of literally paving a new road…together.  Each one of us doing our part while maintaining our understanding of the bigger picture.

And let me tell you something:  we desperately, DESPERATELY, need a new way to BE and a pathway that leads there.  Several actually.  Many, to be sure.  Yours, and yours, and yours and yours.

We need a new way to think, to work, to live, to accept, to honor, to trust, to love, to speak, to not speak, to understand, to hold, to acknowledge, to let go, to create.  Be careful of repeating old patterns that go nowhere.  Look for them.  As they will be magnified in your personal life and field these next few days.  Start here.  They will lead you to the connections that are broader in your community and in the world.

Start here…..but don’t stop here.  Take it out to world and help create that world you so desire.

peace y’all.einstein
