Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

The energy of this moment.

What happens today, when you stop.  Just stop.  Like right now.  STOP!

Stop doing, stop trying, stop moving.  Really stop.  How long does that “stop” take?  As you ‘stop’, what parts of you have stopped?  what parts of you keep going?  Did you really stop?

Stop the excess.  The extra.  The “more than”.  Stop the thoughts, the mindlessness, the triggers.  Stop being lost.  Stop creating suffering.  Stop worrying.  Stop projecting.  Stop.

Then ask: What is essential?  What never stops?  What is vital to your being?  What is vital to this Earth?  What is vital to life as we know it?

We stop so that we can listen, see, hear, feel.  So we can notice.  So we can pay attention.  So we can create IN-tention.  We stop so that when we “go” we go forward with clarity, connection, calm, centeredness and true discernment.  We stop so can remember who we are, why we are here and what are work is.

Sometimes, we think of a stop as a “pause” or a “time in”.  But really, that pause must be a full on, no faking, 100 % STOP.

I remember once a cop pulled me over at a stop sign.  He noted that I came to a sort of “rolling stop” but not a full stop, and he kindly and patiently explained the difference.  A Full Stop is just that: giving your wheels the full amount of time to truly and completely stop.  And then waiting (like a full breath!) before you start again.   And when you start again, it feels like you are starting from the the very beginning.   Like when you first start your car in the morning. How long had I been mostly coming to a “rolling stop” at stop signs and not even noticed?  After that, I paid much more attention to stop signs.  I was grateful to this police officer for calling my attention to a place I had lost awareness.  Now, when I come to a stop sign, (especially the ones back in quiet neighborhoods where I find its easiest to sort of kind of roll to a stop-ish, and keep going because its clear no ones around…) I really, truly STOP.  This is my practice.  And it feels different.  I notice what it means to stop and what it feels like to start again from a place of really stopping.

When did we lose connection to what it really feels like to stop?

Today, re-connect yourself to the experience of truly stopping.  Throughout your day, as you remember to, whenever and wherever you are.

Stop.  Look.  Listen.  Then see how the very next moment unfolds for you.

Word of the Day:  Stop!

Song of the Day: Stop and Smell the Roses by Mac Davis

You are Already There.

A breath in, a breath out.  One breath.  This breath.  This very one.  It connects you to the moment.

The Truth is: We are always in this place, this moment. This life IS a mediation.

The Journey is: We return to this realization over and over and over again until the re-membering is a part of us.  Until we are living it in every breath.

This balance of awareness and understanding with what already is present brings us into our true alignment. With what already exists.  There is nothing to “do” here, nothing to “be” here.  We have a proclivity for making everything more complex than it needs to be.

Just remember.

Remember who you are.

The breath will show you everything you need to know.  Stop looking outside yourself for the answer.

Just breathe.

Where or where is “yoga”?

October 27, 2017
A conversation I had recently went something like this:
“Oh, you are doing art & meditation & sound healing, but no ‘yoga’ for the workshop?”
How is THIS not yoga?  How is all of THIS not yoga?  Have we forgotten what yoga IS? Did we ever know in the first place?  Everything is Yoga when Yoga is understood.  There is no separation between not yoga & yoga.  As I write, I am practicing my yoga.  As I sit, I am practicing my yoga.  As I plan my day, I am practicing my yoga.  These are not just words to say and repeat robotically. This is not just a script I have been trained to recite. This is not just a theory or exercise. This is the most profound truth I have ever known.  Yoga is “Union”. These are not words to be taken lightly. Not a phrase to be gently smiled upon as you nod in agreement.  Saying it is not enough. Reading it is not enough.  Printing it on a T-shirt, is not enough.  Telling others is not enough.
Understanding it, is everything.  Let is sink in.  Let it inform every aspect of your life.
Yoga Is Union.
Sometimes I think studios and the studio culture has completely ruined yoga by cultivating the culture that yoga is something you can pay for.   Something you can go to and experience for an hour and then go home or back to work or wherever.  Something you can read in a book on or have printed on a bumpersticker. Something you “Do”.  Something you can call/label yourself.
Yes, I am aware of the counter arguments regarding making a living and money as an accepted and valuable form of exchange.  And I am in no way against any of that. Still, I find myself asking all the time:  What have we lost, what are we in the process of losing, as yoga becomes increasingly commodified, “studio-ified”?   Its a big question.  Perhaps it is too late.  But asking it will help us as other spiritual paths (shamanism, meditation) go mainstream and are in danger of walking this same slippery slope .
I wonder how many of us really think about this, sink our teeth into this question and engage it fully?  Really consider, 10 years out, where does this path I am paving lead?  What are the pros and cons of the choices I am making now,  to the future collective awakening of this world, this consciousness?  Am I helping, or hurting?  Can I be honest? Can I even know?  Does that make it OK?
Is Beer/Cat/Glitter/Naked (fill in the blank) Yoga truly guiding us to awakening? (assuming thats everyones goal, which is a big assumption, I know.)  If it is now, does that make it a good idea?  What even contributes to our understanding of what is a ‘good idea’ or not? Thats the bigger question.
Before I started teaching “yoga & sound”, I went first to my Yoga Guru and asked him if this pairing was in accordance with the yoga lineage that I am a part of.  I then went to my Sound Healing teacher and asked her what she thought about it as well.  Both gave me their blessings, their feedback, their assurance that this was an appropriate use of both these tools.  Only then did I design the ‘curriculum’ and start teaching “yoga & sound healing”.
When you’re not sure if your work is ultimately contributing to “the greater good”, ask your teachers, your guides, your gurus, ask the Divine.  And them be willing to listen.
I am a humble vessel for the Divine and respectfully tread very carefully anytime I create a “new offering”. This is tremendously powerful work.
  • Its time to stop being so aloof with the term “yoga” and how it is applied.
  • Its time to practice better discernment as we come up with new ideas and how to apply them.
  • Its time to not just judge whether something is a good idea or not by how many people show up or come through the door.
  • Its time to be willing to live and breathe “Eyes Wide Open” instead of just saying it.
This is my wishlist at this time.  Its a personal wishlist, not meant to be coercive, judgmental or derogatory in any way.  Just one persons vision of what is happening now and one persons dream of a better tomorrow.
“May you see clearly the path before you. May you  understand fully the path behind you.  And may you walk with Grace, truth, equanimity, compassion and focus, in the here & now.”

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

Look into the places where you feel afraid.  Peer inside with tenderness and care.  Be willing to see the places that scare you.  The dark places.  The shadowy corners.  What lurks there?

These hidden fears are often representations of something tender, raw, vulnerable.  We make them into monsters in our mind, but they are more like prey.  If we ask these places what they need, we can shift them and bring ourselves into deeper levels of balance in the process.

What are you concerned about, worried for, right now?   Remember this:  All of us, ALL of us, regardless of class, race, upbringing, religion, belief systems, share in this human quality of wanting to survive.  In this survival place, we all have our concerns which sometimes get triggered into fears.  We wear these fears very similarly:  as anger, pride, self-righteousness, stubbornness.  But really, we all just need to be safe.  If I look around at those yelling the loudest, at those who are most accusatory, at those who have been ignored or those who have the most, I see people who just want to feel secure. Who just want to know they, and their loved ones are protected.

Are we, as a Human race, able to look beyond the chasms of our differences, and see this common need for stability , this shared interest of being healthy and whole, as a unifying trait?

Start with you.  Start with now.  Start right here.

Energy Musings. Here. Now.

Today!!!

Clear a pathway, just one pathway, to something, someplace, someone today.  It might be a small corner of your desk so you have a better view through a window, or perhaps raking an area in your backyard, or maybe even just sweeping a hallway in your home?  It could be a phone call or conversation that needs to happen to clear the air. You can even clear a pathway in your mind using your breath. Or in your body, using dance.  Or clear a pathway  in your work, focusing your time and energy on a project.  There are many ways to consider “clearing a pathway”.

Each perception is just a lens that helps us see more clearly. Remember there are always multiple perspectives at play simultaneously.  It can be overwhelming and confusing to try to think of all these perspectives all at once,  but if you pick one lens to see through clearly, all the other implications and areas will be impacted as well.  Its just about getting started and following through with your intention.

Today, look for a pathway to be cleared. A way to get from point A to point B.  And then, with focus and attention, walk mindfully down the path you have created, and see what is there for you.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

I ask myself “whats happening today?”  and I open to a blank page, a new document. What needs to be written here, in this emptiness?  Before me stands limitless possibility.  Every option available.  There is potential rising with the sun itself, with each breath.

And the page itself is still blank.  I inhale, exhale and write.  Never knowing what comes next.  Never even trying to imagine it.  I become one with the moment.  Sometimes it is awkward, abrupt, rough.  Other times it is flowing, natural, easy.  I expect nothing, judge nothing, edit nothing.  And then I offer it up.

Through this process I reveal not so much a window into an oracle foretelling the future as the heartbeat of the present moment.  My present moment.  And in reflecting my present moment, I reflect yours.  Not because I know something you don’t, but because I am willing to share my imperfection, my not knowing, my knowing, my perfection. All of it.

This process mirrors life itself.  An honest, vulnerable, fierce, raw, natural, aligned life.

What is here for you today, on this blank page? For me, there is potential.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

Let your unfolding continue.  One delicious, lovely day at a time.  Take it easy.  Take it slow.  Like the unfurling of a new spring leaf.  Each day, miraculous opening almost invisibly, until, after a few days, it is completely revealed.  This is your process too.

As you unfold into each new day, each new moment, each new breath, take the time to notice, appreciate and accept it.  Resist the temptation to “curl back up”.  There is actually nothing for you to “do” here.  Just be present in this sacred precious moment.  Just notice, in the tiniest of details, in most nuanced of ways, how this unfolding is representing in your life here & now.

Then, with a smile, breathe it in & let it go.  With acceptance and non-attachment you will integrate each unfolding just as it is.

How are you unfolding today?
