she persists.

this persistence, it is the very thing we are made of.  Flesh, bone, blood, persistence.  I believe it is what holds us together at our very core.  Many have forgotten. Too many.  As we have moved into places, initiated our ascent,  motivated by fear, by threats, by bribes, by guilt, by the need to prove how successful, beautiful, important and relevant we are …. the slow, steady, mundane pace of persistence is in danger of being lost. forgotten.  forever.  we are in trouble.

Its not sexy.  Or radical.

Its not juicy.  Or big.

this persistence.

say it. listen to its whisper.

Persistence is not about taking risks,  making leaps of faith, diving into the unknown.  It is not the “just do it” mentality of  pop culture fame and fortune.  Nor is it the ignorance of looking the other way.  Of giving up and giving in.  I can’t bear to hear one more person applaud the accomplishment of tough as nails pushing through barriers, of the value of being a radical risk-taker.  I can’t bear to hear one more person tout the ‘let it all go and just wait for sign’, the trust in the universe and you don’t have to ‘do’ anything,  mentality either.

Where is our sense of balance?  of persistence?

I know.  I look to the artists.  Not the ones you’ve ever heard of.  Not the ones in museums and big deal NY galleries.  Not the ones who are famous, or almost famous, or who have created a life that makes them a true living through their art.  No. Not them.

I look to the real world, struggling, mundane, ordinary artists who persist.  The ones who, in addition to full time jobs (by necessity), families, responsibilities and general adulting, still… still make time to make their art.  They do it without recognition. They do it without reward.  They do it in too small spaces, in too small gaps of time between things.  They don’t do it perfectly, or every day.  They don’t waste their precise little time applying for shows and recognition. But still…. but still, they persist.  Unknown to anyone they persist.  They persist in spite of everything.  When every impulse, pressure and sign indicates how difficult it is, they persist.  why?  Why?  Is it just for their own gratification?  Is it just so they don’t forget who they are?  or maybe, just maybe, they are silently teaching, leading the way in the invisible realm.  Showing, guiding us, in the principles of persistence.

If you want to know the truth about persistence and not some trademarked version of it, you must seek these people out.  Understand what it means to buck the trend of accomplishment to find the soul of authenticity.

Look to the artists.  The quiet ones.  The not motivated by success ones. There is so much wisdom here.

Lets not lose touch with the heart of persistence.

I know.  I persist.

Energy Musings. Here. Now.

Today!

Balance.  How easy it is to forget as we teeter tooter from one thing to another, in reactionary mode to each and every thing that stimulates or triggers us.  It is one thing (and an important thing at that!) to practice balance in meditation, in yoga, on paper, in checkbooks, behind classroom doors, with an expert at the helm.

But can you walk, breathe, live and respond with this same balance in your life and in this world?  Can you cultivate the balance within yourself, your being, your mind and carry that inner balance with you as a lens through which to use discernment as you live your days?  What does it mean to you to truly, truly, live in balance?  in balance with what?

Consider balance today, this week.  Play with it. Get to know it.  Explore it.  Seek it. Question it.   Surrender to it. Pray for it.

If we want to get off this roller coaster of a life and walk together more peacefully, true balance is essential for everyone, for everything, for all of us.

Start by getting curious about the true nature of Balance.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

New Moon on Monday!  Theres an amplification in the air.  Asking you to look at the “stuck” places in your being, in your body, in your mind, in your life, in your home, in your relationships, in your work, in it ALL.

Its a bit of an organic process. Noticing one holding pattern, seeing it reflected somewhere else and asking yourself where and how you can best shift it.  If you can find these places on and in the physical body, down to the most subtle sensations, and shift them their,  that shift will ripple out from the inside and subsequently shift the places where it is magnified and represented outside you.  But this requires intense personal work.  On a very deep, engaged, discerning and skilled level.  When this level of work is not apparent or appropriate, we begin to look around and see where we can ‘unstick’.

Sometimes you might just have to dig in the dirt. Move it, toss it, aerate it, free it up to receive oxygen.  Then notice in your body what you register. Release.

Sometimes you might need to build a fire.  Gather wood, build a structure, set it ablaze and watch the transmutation of one form into another.  Then notice in your body what you register.  Let Go.

sometimes you need to rake leaves, plant seeds, move furniture, clean the house, make art, scrub the sink, climb a tree….

If you don’t know what to do, look around with the question “what is stuck”?  It might show up as very literal, glaringly obvious, quite subtle or totally metaphorical.  But its there, its there.

Take some quiet time today to find that stuck place that is asking for your help.  Listen. Listen.  And then, with the dark moon as your ally, let it go.  Then give yourself time to notice the changes that will begin to unfold for you moving forward.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

Let your unfolding continue.  One delicious, lovely day at a time.  Take it easy.  Take it slow.  Like the unfurling of a new spring leaf.  Each day, miraculous opening almost invisibly, until, after a few days, it is completely revealed.  This is your process too.

As you unfold into each new day, each new moment, each new breath, take the time to notice, appreciate and accept it.  Resist the temptation to “curl back up”.  There is actually nothing for you to “do” here.  Just be present in this sacred precious moment.  Just notice, in the tiniest of details, in most nuanced of ways, how this unfolding is representing in your life here & now.

Then, with a smile, breathe it in & let it go.  With acceptance and non-attachment you will integrate each unfolding just as it is.

How are you unfolding today?

Energy Musings. Here. Now.

today!

Breathe in the fresh new crisp air this morning, and get to work!  Its a day for tying up loose ends, finishing projects and getting clear on your priorities.  Tear yourself away from devices and electronics, from phone calls and meetings, only attending to them when it is essential to getting your work done. And in those cases, keep it efficient!

Be mindful of distractions today, they will be pushing on you.  Resist the temptation to get sidetracked.  And notice where and how those distractions come up. This is valuable insight for future reference.

There’s an opportunity today to push through on some lingering projects.  If you can align with this moment, the work will go surprisingly quickly.  These are the times to jump in fully and engage in what needs to be done.

Find the flow in this process today and enjoy the relative ease of it all.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring?  Take this opportunity, this gift,  for what it is.

Energy Musings. Here. Now.

Today!

Feel the soles of your feet on this earth with each step.  Breathe into and through your feet as you walk through your day.  Touch the ground with awareness and gentleness and ease. Each step is sacred.  Each breath matters.

As we get lost in thinking and watching and doing and going, our attention shifts away from these feet, this walking, this touching the earth.  Bringing ourselves back to this awareness keeps us grounded, solid, present.  Keeps us connected to our Nature.  Keeps us remembering where we are and what it is we are walking towards.

Feel your feet, barefooted and free, coming into contact with all the textures & sensations of your world. Walk in the rain, the snow, the mud, the leaves, the dirt, the sand, the water, the rocks, the concrete.  Feel it all. Breathe it in.

Pay attention through the soles of your feet today, not through your head.  Pay attention to the sensations here as you align with the earth herself. Bringing your attention back to the feet time and time again.

What is it you want to send into the heart of the Earth with each step you take?  Breathe that in, and send it down into the earth, planting seeds one step at a time.

Watch your step. Remember your feet.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today.

Wake me up inside.  From the inside out.  From the outside in.  From all around at once.  From every direction simultaneously.

Like a wind sweeping through the trees,  dance me in this wakefulness.  Like a rain let loose from above, soak me in this wakefulness.  Like a sun, rising to its full strength, bask me in this wakefulness.

Wake me in from the outside.

Like the breath, rising and falling in each and every moment, without hesitation, wake me up from the inside.

Wake me out from the inside.

In every cell, in every sound,  in every taste, in every touch, in every sight, in every sensation,  in every moment, in this moment

wake me up.

Energy Musings.  Here. Now.

Today!

First day of March.  What will this march bring?  What are we marching towards? away from?  beside?  Are we even aware of this marching? This forward movement? This momentum?  One foot in front of the other?

How do you place each foot as you step through this world, this life, this day, this moment?  Do you place it with love, with gentleness, with ease, with awareness? Do you place it with force, with power, with presence, with focus?

When, Where, How… do you march?  Are you even aware of your footsteps, your personal intimate march?

If I stomp up the stairs to speak to my child or if I tiptoe up the stairs as quietly as a mouse… have I already “spoken” before I even open my mouth?  What did I say? How much am I paying attention?

Each footstep sends a vibration into the earth, felt by all, and especially by those closest to us.  Each moment we walk, we are dancing in awareness of our impact on this world.  The Dance of life is not confined to a stage, or show, or performance.  It exists in each moment. And most importantly in all the in-between moments.

Today, watch your step.
